![]() The Corinthian is one of the most distinctive luxury high-rise condominiums in Manhattan. The building was built in 1987 by lead developer Bernard Spitzer, with assistance from Kriti Properties and Development Corporation, and Peter L. Malkin. The 57 story structure was architected by Michael Schimenti in conjunction with design consultants from Der Scutt Architects. The building occupies an entire city block on First Avenue between 37th street and 38th Street. The ¾ acre entrance plaza of The Corinthian is comprised of well kept gardens, a water fountain, and a private brick driveway. As residents and guests arrive and depart under the driveway's canopy, they are assisted by a team of attentive doormen. The lobby of The Corinthian rivals some palaces with its copious marble décor and plush indoor sitting areas. Two high speed elevator banks, each with three elevators, split pedestrian traffic for floors 4 through 32 (low-rise apartments), and 32 through the penthouse (high-rise apartments). All of the apartments feature unique bay windows with expansive views of New York City, The East River, and surrounding areas. Many apartments have private balconies.
