The Neighborhood

Midtown Manhattan broadly encompasses the geographical area of 59th Street to the north and 30th Street to the south, between the Hudson River on the west side and the East River on the east side. Midtown is further divided into Midtown East and Midtown West along 5th Avenue.

Midtown East plays host to over a dozen subway lines, almost two dozen bus lines, and New York City Public School Districts 59 and 116.

The neighborhood north of 42nd street and east of Lexington Avenue, is called Turtle Bay. This area is most notable as being home to the headquarters of the United Nations. Nestled within a few city blocks directly across from the United Nations sits the private community called Tutor City.

The neighborhood south of 42nd Street, between 2nd Avenue and the East River is known as Kips Bay. This area is home to the famous Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital, the prestigious New York University Medical Center, Saint Vartans Park and Public Playground, along with a number of luxury condominiums including The Corinthian, The Horizon, and Manhattan Place.

The neighborhood south of 42nd Street, between 5th Avenue and 2nd Avenue is known as Murray Hill. The lure of this neighborhood includes landmarks such as The Empire State Building, the New York City Public Library, and Grand Central Station. Murray hill also offers a refreshing mix of commercial and residential establishments including eclectic restaurants, boutiques, taverns, and grocers.

Because of its proximity to major business and commercial centers in the center of Manhattan, Midtown East is a popular residential choice for New Yorkers. This growing area attracts business professionals and families alike.
